The book reviews of UK children's author, Brian Keaney
Originally put out under the pseudonym, Jack Harvey, Witch Hunt is an early novel from Rankin before the Rebus series took off so effectively. A tightly-plotted thriller, it's the story of the hunt for a female assassin. The characters are drawn in bold strokes and the writing is crisp, moving at a rapid pace but lingering over evocative details to create the right mood. It's too high-concept for me and elements of the plot struck me as implausible. All the same it's an enjoyable read.
