The book reviews of UK children's author, Brian Keaney
This book is action packed from the very first page and the author displays an extraordinary inventiveness in cramming his plot with a host of colourful characters taken and adapted from mythologies and folklore all over the world. The target audience will probably love it and the fact that it's already won a number of awards testifies to this.
However, I thought it was badly written. It's repetitive. The emotional narrative is all tell and no show. It's littered with lengthy passages of exposition and the characterisation strikes me as cartoon-like. I found reading it a chore.
